CAL: Week 13

¡Esta manta está creciendo muy rápido! :D // This blanket is growing up so fast! :D

// This is the pattern for this week, very simple. I did the 2 first rows with dark brown, rows 3 and 4 with beige and I crocheted 2 additional rows in blue and dark brown again. It's very similar to 2nd week's one, but you will see the difference one finished.

// If you click the image you will see the original post where a tutorial about how to join squares is shown. Fantastic!

CAL: Week 12

// This is this week's pattern. It's so simple and easy to crochet. You can see the original post just by clicking the image.

Os lo enseñaré el fin de semana :) // I did lines 1-4 in blue, 5-6 in beige and the last one in blue again. And I changed the double crochets in the last line for single ones and, by mistake, I did the stitches on the wrong way, but I don't dislike how it looks. I will show you next weekend :)

CAL: Week 11

Es muy simple pero mezclando vuestros colores quedará genial :) // This week we're going to crochet an original granny square. It is very simple but if you mix your colors it will look great! :)

En nuestra edición de Navidad de 2013 compartimos este patrón: // In our Christmas Edition in 2013 we shared this pattern:

// The image will lead you to our issue, go to page 20 and you'll find a pattern to do your own granny square. Combine your colors as you like (remember not to finish with color A) and take as reference the size of the last squares we crocheted.

CAL: Week 10

Pues porque me lo he inventado y no sé cómo explicarlo sin enseñarlo terminado :P // This week our square is not going to be secret. Why? Because I have invented it myself and I can't explain it if I don't show it finished :P

CAL: Week 9

// This week I'm going to show you the page I learn to crochet with. It's TejiendoPerú, a page with a big variety of tutorials in wich Esperanza Rosas teach us how to follow them step by step. Our square for this week is taken from this page and it's a flower in a square. It's a little bit hard but with her tutorial you will be able to do it to perfection.

Square a week - 8th square

// I didn't block it yet so it looks strange. When we'll join it with the rest it will be adjusted properly to the normal size.

En las próximas semanas iré más desahogada y podré atenderos mejor :) // I'm sorry about the quality of the last images, I'm a little bit bussy lately. In the next few weeks I will be able to do it better :)

CAL: Week 8

// This week we're going to crochet a super-simple pattern. It might be the simplest thing you can do in crochet.

Yo he hecho: // I made:
C, D, A, B, C, D, B, C.

25 cad.
3 cad, 1pa en la 4ª cad (contando desde la aguja) y 1pa en cada cad.
Haz 7 líneas más de 3cad y 24pa.
Total: 8 líneas de 25pa.

Ch 25.
Ch3, 1dc in 4th ch from hook and 1dc in each ch.
Crochet 7 more rows (ch3 + 24dc)
Total: 8 rows made of 25dc.

Fácil, ¿verdad? ¡Ahora podéis compartir! :D // Easy, right? Now you can share! :D

UPDATE: I'm so sorry but I had a biiiig mistake. I have written the pattern as a square made of lines that were done with double crochet stitches. It's not double crochet but triple (or treble). BUT if you have already done it and you've realized that it's too short, just add 2 more rows. Don't finish with color A. I redid my square and that's the one I will show you tomorrow, finishing with D and C again.

// We're on "productive holidays", getting tons of new contents for the next issues of Aristocraft, so today I'm going to be a cheater (:P) and I'm going to leave here some patterns that are very cute from this page. This week we're crocheting number 149.

I have chosen these colors for each row:

1A 2D 3C 4B 5A (Yo he añadido una línea más, así que... // I added one more row, so...) 6C

CAL: Week 4

// This time I'm going to be good. I'm going to show you a scheme fot this week's pattern. It's quite hard to follow the written instructions if you don't manage them very well.

// The pattern is from a blog that I follow and the only stitch that it's different than the ones that we used before is the extended double crochet so here is a video tutorial

He seguido el patrón con estos colores: // I followed the pattern with this colors:

A (1,2)
C (3,4)
A (5)
D (6)
A (7)

Yo he cambiado el inicio por un círculo mágico y sólo he tejido hasta la vuelta 7. // I did a magic ring instead of chain 5 to start and I only crocheted until 7th row.

// Now we're going to crochet an additional double crochet row but only in the back loop.

// Simply do a double crochet in each stich or chain space of the last row and do chain 2 in the corners.

// Note that the rest of the squares are bigger than this one but if you count the stitches comparing this one with the last one, they both have 23 stitches per side. Don't worry about the size, when we'll join them at the end of the project they will fit perfectly.

CAL: Week 3

¡Buenos días! ¡Aquí está el tercer patrón! // Good morning! Here's the third pattern! :)

// In order to help you a little bit, I upload an image for you to see how the square has to look when you get the "see image" words in the pattern.

With C.
Start with a magic ring (if you don't know how to do it just crochet 4 or 5 chains and join them to form a ring)
ROW 1: Crochet inside the ring chain 3 (it will be the first double crochet) and 2 more double crochet, *chain 3, 3 double crochet* and repeat from * to * twice. You'll have four double crochet groups separated by 3 chains that will be the corners. Join with slip stitch and close the ring.
ROW 2: Slip stitch back until you get the last chain 3 space. Crochet chain 3, *(3 double crochet, chain 3, 3 double crochet) in the next 3 chain space* and repeat from * to * two more times. (3 double crochet, chain 3, 2 double crochet) in the next space and join with slip stitch to the initial chain 3.
With A.
ROW 3: Start this row in a chain 3 space. Chain 3 (it will be the first double crochet) and 2 more double crochet stitches in the same space. 3 double crochet between the two groups of the last row. Crochet 2 groups between the groups of last row and another 3 double crochet in the corner. Turn the square, we're only going to crochet a half row this time.
ROW 4: Chain 3. Repeat row 3 but add groups of 3 double crochet between the groups of last row. Finish with a double crochet in last row's third chain of the start. Turn your square again.
See image.
With D.
ROW 5: Chain 3 (it will be the first double crochet) and 2 double crochet in the space between the double crochet of last row and the next group. *Crochet groups of 3 double crochet between the groups of last row. In the corner (3 double crochet, chain 3, 3 double crochet). Repeat from * to *. Crochet another group in the space between the last group and the chain 3 of last row. Chain 3 and another group on the chain 3 of last row, creating a new corner. Crochet another group in the corner in color C, another one between the color C groups and another one in the next corner. Crochet chain 3 and another group in the same space. Now crochet a group between color C groups, another one in the color C corner and a last group in the color A double crochet. Finish with chain 3 joined to the initial chain 3.
ROW 6: Crochet the whole row creating groups of 3 double crochet stitches between the groups of last row and creating the corners with groups of 3 double crochet stitches separated by 3 chains.
With B.
ROW 7: Repeat row 6.
ROW 8: Repeat row 6.

// When written it seems to be hard but, if you read the pattern as you crochet, you'll see that is easier than it seems.

¡Buena suerte! // Good luck! :D

CAL: Week 1

¡Buenos días! // Good morning! :)

¡Aquí estamos para comenzar con nuestro reto! Este es el primer cuadrado. Si tenéis algún problema para leer el patrón o no sabéis cómo hacer algún punto, puedes consultar algunos puntos básicos aquí. // Here we are to start with our challenge! This is the first square. If you have any problem to read the pattern or you don't know how to do any stitch, you can read this post

// It's the first week and we're giving you a hint...

¿Os gusta? Aquí está el patrón: // Do you like it? Here's the pattern:

Cambia a D.
VUELTA 4: Repite la vuelta 2.
Cambia a C.
VUELTA 5: Repite la vuelta 2.
Cambia a B.
VUELTA 6: Repite la vuelta 2.

Start with color A.
Make a magic ring (if you don't know how to do it just make a ring with 3-4 chains and a slip stitch)
ROW 1: Chain 3 (it will be the first double crochet) and 3 double crochet stitches in the magic ring. Continue crocheting inside the circle: *Chain 3 (corner) and 4 double crochet stitches*. Repeat from * to * twice and you will have 4 groups and 4 corners. Join with slip stitch to the third chain that you did first and close the magic ring.
ROW 2: Chain 3 (it will be a double crochet) and 1 double crochet in each double crochet of the last row until you get the corner. *In the corner: 2 double crochet, chain 3, 2 double crochet*. Again, 1 double crochet in each double crochet of the last row and repear from * to * in each corner until the row is completed. Then continue with double crochet stitches until you join the end with the start of the row with a slip stitch.
ROW 3: Repeat row 2.
Change to D.
ROW 4: Repeat row 2.
Change to C.
ROW 5: Repeat row 2.
Change B.
ROW 6: Repeat row 2.

// We hope you all understand the pattern and you like the first square.

We would love you to share the photos of your progress! Square a week: Tips

Today we show you some tips to choose the colors, yarn and hook that we will use for the CAL for you to be confident with the project :)

// First of all we have to choose the yarn and the colors. We will use 100% natural cotton as the main color and 70% cotton 30% acrylic as secondary colors. We recommend to use a main color and another two colors that belong to the same range but in different shades. In addition, we will use a fourth color that will be different but matching the rest.

// We have chosen these colors. From left (more) to right (less), these are the colors that we will use more and less in the project.

A. Beige
B. Camel
C. Azul // Blue

Now choose your four colors and put them in order as we have done. Your main color will be A, the next more used color will be B, the one for the big details will be C and the one for the small details will be D.

// For example, our blanket will be mostly light brown (in different shades) and some details will be blue and dark brown.

No te preocupes si no estás seguro. // To choose a hook, we need to consider the tension that we prefer when crocheting. Don't worry if you're not sure. Maybe you will use more than one hook in this project.

// When finishing the blanket we will crochet some additional rows to enlarge the smaller squares, so don't try them to be perfectly done each week. You will have different sizes that we will match to make them equal at the end.

:) // We hope our tips will help you and we encourage you to get the materials as soon as possible. Tomorrow we will upload the first pattern for you to start crocheting! :)

// It's not the first time that we use this kind of colors, you can see here another blanket made in brown and blue.

3, 2, 1... ¡Empieza el CAL! // The CAL starts!

CAL: Square a Week

¡Hola, aristocrafters! :)

// If you speak English and want to join the CAL, we will write the patterns in Spanish and English each week. If you have any questions, please write us to aristocraftmagazine@gmail.com or leave a comment here :) //

Estos son algunos ejemplos que aportarán inspiración:

http://aconversationwithmoo.com/
¿Por qué un patrón escrito? // Why is it a written pattern?
// Very simple: some people find easier to follow a written pattern than a graphic and, in addition, when crocheting with a written pattern you can't see the square until you finish it :)

¿Qué haremos con los cuadrados? // What will we do with the squares?
// During this year, each week we will crochet a square so, at the end of the year, we will have 50 squares (the first and last weeks you will have time to prepare the materials and join the squares) that we will join to form a blanket.

¿Qué pasa si no empiezo a tiempo? // What happens if I can't start on time?
// Don't worry! You would have to work a little more the first weeks to get us but you will be able to do it :)

¿Y si no termino el reto? // What if I don't finish the challenge?
// No problem, if you do some squares but, for any reason, you can't continue with the challenge, you can always join your squares and finish a different project. Take a look to our Pinterest boards to see the amount of projects you can create with crochet squares. You can always donate your squares to a initiative like Tejido Social or similar, that will be pleased to accept them to be part of their charity projects.

Cómo comenzar // How to start:

// Choose a color to be the main color of your blanket and another three colors that will be secondary. If you need inspiration to choose them, you can take a look here.

// We will crochet with a 3'50 or 4mm hook, that is proper to our yarn, but you can choose your own gauge.

// Sign up with this form to receive the posts about the challenge and to be informed about the weekly work.

Compartiremos nuestras favoritas mensualmente. // Share your work with us in the social networks using the hashtag #AMsquareaweek or send us your pictures by e-mail. We will share our favourites monthly.
